Pangasinan Students Build Future of Blockchain at Hack The Chain Event

More than 140 college students from Pangasinan joined a 24-hour blockchain hackathon on July 13. They developed digital tools aimed at addressing local challenges, including support for farmers and tourism promotion.

• Participants: 144 students from five local colleges and universities
• Structure: Three-day technical training followed by a 24-hour hackathon
• Sponsors: OKX, Bitstop Network Services, EZ Man Delivery Service, DigiForce IT Services, ANL Printshop and General Merchandise, Devcon Philippines

Teams used the Solidity programming language and Viction’s VRC25 token standard to build blockchain applications. Twelve student groups presented projects to a panel of judges.

Winning entries included:

• JuanderQuest (₱10,000 prize), a gamified eco-tourism platform
• PRAXIS (₱5,000), a freelance work platform with automated payment
• AgriTrust (₱3,000), a tool for agricultural traceability

“Presenting was incredibly intense. You pour everything you have into building something for 24 hours straight, and then you have just three minutes to convey your vision to the judges. The nerves got to us for a moment, but we all just had to laugh and push forward with high spirits. Students came from Universidad de Dagupan, University of Luzon, PHINMA University of Pangasinan, AMA Computer College, and the Philippine College of Science & Technology.
