Big shifts are underway at the Ethereum Foundation. The nonprofit behind the world’s second-largest blockchain just announced a brand-new leadership structure, and it is a big departure from the way things used to run. With its latest leadership shakeup, the Ethereum Foundation is showing it’s ready to level up in 2025 and beyond.

Initially revealed on March 17, 2025, this initiative is now in full effect. The Foundation will be led by not one, but two executive directors: Hsiao-Wei Wang and Tomasz K. Stańczak. That’s right, Ethereum is now co-piloted. The goal is to bring together technical depth and operational execution under one roof, or in this case, under two people who know the system inside and out.
Wang, a longtime Ethereum researcher, will serve as the technical anchor of the team. She will help connect the dots between the Foundation’s board and its day-to-day leadership. Stańczak, founder of Nethermind, is stepping in with a strong background in running engineering teams. He will prioritize effective task completion and ensure that projects stay on schedule.

Along with the leadership change, the Foundation is also drawing a sharper line between the board and the management team. Think of it as splitting vision from execution.

The board, which includes familiar names like Vitalik Buterin, Aya Miyaguchi, Patrick Storchenegger, and now Wang as well, will focus on long-term goals and making sure Ethereum stays true to its roots. Meanwhile, Wang and Stańczak will run the day-to-day operations, coordinate projects, and drive the strategy forward.
This change is partly a response to past critiques that the Foundation felt too distant or vague. Now, the aim is to be more hands-on and structured without becoming top-down or centralized.
The leadership shift comes with a clear game plan for the next 12 months. The Foundation has laid out three main focus areas:
These goals aren’t flashy, but they tackle real pain points for developers and users alike.
Through all this change, the Foundation is doubling down on the basics. They are still all about censorship resistance, open-source development, privacy, and decentralization. These are not buzzwords to them. The leadership says these principles will stay front and center, even as Ethereum evolves.
Ethereum’s leadership revamp is more than a personnel update. It is a thoughtful step toward more structure, faster progress, and clearer communication. With Wang and Stańczak sharing the wheel and a fresh roadmap in hand, the Foundation is gearing up to tackle some of Ethereum’s biggest challenges head-on, and maybe even make the whole thing easier to use in the process.
