CoinGecko Elevates Bobby Ong to CEO, Cedric Chan to CTO in Leadership Shake-Up

Cryptocurrency data aggregator CoinGecko announced a series of leadership changes as it looks to expand its enterprise offerings and developer ecosystem.

New Leaderships

In a media release, CoinGecko announced that its co-founder Bobby Ong has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, succeeding fellow co-founder TM Lee, who will move into the role of President effective immediately.

Ong previously served as Chief Operating Officer for 11 years, overseeing CoinGecko’s business strategy, operations, and international growth.

Moreover, the press release noted that under Ong’s leadership, CoinGecko has expanded into a platform used daily by millions worldwide, with its crypto data API supporting major exchanges, wallets, and financial institutions across both web3 and traditional finance.

On the other hand, as President, Lee will focus on long-term product vision and research and development initiatives.

New CTO and Head of Product

CoinGecko also named Cedric Chan as its new Chief Technology Officer. Chan, who joined the company in 2021 as Head of Engineering. He has been credited with strengthening the firm’s infrastructure and compliance controls, helping its API surpass 677 billion requests in the past year.

In his new role, Chan will now oversee the company’s technology roadmap, including scaling infrastructure, embedding AI, and building next-generation data systems.

Additionally, Xingyi Ho has been appointed Head of Product after previously leading growth functions since 2022. 

As Head of Product, Ho will direct CoinGecko’s product strategy and align offerings with user and market needs.

The company said the appointments are part of its effort to transition from a founder-led startup into a global data infrastructure provider for both web3 and traditional finance.
