Apple’s $599 Mac mini Just Sold Out Everywhere

Apple’s cheapest Mac is now off the shelves.

The $599 M4 Mac mini is completely out of stock on Apple’s online store, with no option to order or backorder the entry-level device.

The sudden sellout shows a deeper strain across Apple’s desktop lineup. Multiple Mac mini configurations are now unavailable or delayed by weeks, as component shortages affect memory and storage availability, and shipping timelines stretch for the remaining models.

Shortages spread across the lineup

According to 9to5Mac, Apple has halted orders for the base Mac mini, replacing the purchase option with an “unavailable” message.

The shortage is not limited to a single device. Any M4 Mac mini with 256 GB storage is now unavailable, regardless of RAM. Earlier in April, higher-end models with 32 GB and 64 GB memory were also removed from sale, indicating a steady decrease in supply.

Retail availability also follows a similar pattern, with third-party sellers increasingly limited to higher-end products, often in short supply.

Component shortages and delays widen

The shortages appear linked to wider supply chain constraints, particularly around memory and storage components. Digital Today observed that supply constraints in memory and storage components appear to be driving the disruption.

“There is a possibility that Apple is allocating limited component volumes first to the MacBook lineup, which has a relatively higher share of sales, pushing desktop Mac supply down the priority list,” the publication stated.

Cult of Mac also emphasized that the base model has been affected by ongoing DRAM and NAND shortages, which are impacting production across Apple’s desktop lineup. Shipping times underscore the pressure. Apple’s online store shows delays of around six weeks for some configurations, while others stretch to up to 12 weeks or longer.

At the same time, reports suggest Apple may be prioritizing MacBook production over desktop systems, which typically account for a larger share of sales.

Refresh speculation remains unclear

When Apple products start going out of stock, it can sometimes mean a new version is coming. Some observers think the Mac mini shortages could be a sign of a future M5 update.

However, things remain uncertain. Similar stock shortages affecting the Mac Studio have not yet resulted in immediate updates, with earlier reports suggesting a later release window.

For now, the situation reflects ongoing supply limitations and constrained inventory across Apple’s desktop lineup, with availability varying widely by specification.
